Legacy.

What if I told you my work is, at its core, an anthology—a series of meditations on life, death, and everything in between? It’s a record, a declaration that I lived, and a reflection on what we leave behind.

As 2024 began, or perhaps as 2023 quietly ended, I found myself confronting the void—the midpoint, the second half, or perhaps the end of the first act. It’s a moment when the question “What’s next?” looms largest, and the only answer I could find was “Legacy.”

If we are, in the end, just dust in the wind, then our legacy is the only true imprint we leave behind. Resigned to the idea that I may never leave behind generational wealth, I have resolved instead to leave a legacy of tangible, original artworks that declare: I lived. I was here. I lived in joy and good spirit.

The pieces in my 2024 painting collection, Legacy, are time capsules—moments captured in color and form, meditations on specific emotions, and reflections on the human experience. If you find joy, beauty, complexity, a moment, or a story in any of these works, then my mission is accomplished. Bring what you will to them. Anything more than apathy is fine with me.

Legacy is often found in the small, deliberate acts of living. My best memories are of my mother, who crafted a legacy not through wealth but through her hobbies, projects, outlandish capers, and thoughtfully organized plans. She was industrious and creative, never wasteful, and regarded self-pity and sloth as sins. She poured her energy into crafts, surprises, treats, and holiday decor—each a manifestation of care and intention, and each a part of the legacy she passed on.

I find myself moving fluidly between figurative work and abstraction, often inspired by neo-primitivism and artists like Ali Baletic and Helene Steene. I’m still learning to find quiet and grace in my pieces, just as I’m learning to find them in life.

Some of these works are ready to join someone’s collection, while others will remain with me, and I welcome collaborations—textiles, apparel, album covers, product designs, custom commissions, or whatever you might dream up after seeing my work.

I hope something in my work inspires you to consider your own legacy. What will you leave behind?

“We’re all dying—some of us just faster than others,” -- my Grandfather, James B. Horman, once said while bending down to pick up a golf ball on a crisp, perfect fall day in New Hampshire.
